[Video + Tracks] Ellie Goulding - Under The Sheets

Some of my musical tastes are overwhelmingly predictable. I like to think my musical tastes are developing as I get older, but there has been and will always be a rightful place in my heart (and playlists) for foreign ladies singing pop music. As Heavy D and I hashed out the CotP Top 20 of the aughts (coming in November), he threatened me with bodily harm before I could even bring up Lily Allen. (She didn't make the cut, though in my head, Alright, Still is number 21.)

As such, when our homie B-Roc dropped me a message last spring about Ellie Goulding, touting her British brand of electro-based pop, I was hooked before I heard the opening notes to "Starry Eyed." Goulding is from London and works primarily with producer Starsmith and has a deal with Neon Gold. Her music is irresistibly catchy, both in production and lyrics. She recently spent some time recording with B-Roc and the HeavyRoc boys in their studio in New York...I can't wait to see what will come of that collaboration. The 7" for "Under The Sheets" is out November 9th on Neon Gold and can be pre-ordered through their shop for $5. The pressing is limited to 250 in the U.S., so go order yours now!

Also, I'd like to welcome Ellie Goulding to the charter class of what I'm calling "The Lily Allen All-Stars" for female, foreign pop singers whose cuteness is only overshadowed by their musical talents. Other charter members: Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Lykke Li, Robyn, Natasha Khan, Eleanor Jackson (of La Roux), Imogen Heap, Little Boots, M.I.A. and Marina (of & the Diamonds).
