Pray For Rain

I have been on a big TV On The Radio kick lately, so it bummed me out to hear that the guys are taking some time off. Luckily there is plenty TVTOR associated projects to keep us busy in the mean time. Adebimpe is featured on a song from the new Massive Attack EP, Splitting the Atom. "Pray For Rain" is a slow burning lament that builds steadily over its nearly 7 minute run time. The breakdown around 4:25 is a surprisingly innocent chorus of oohs and ahhs, but is a cool contrast with the nervous tension of the rest of the song.

Rain Machine is the side project from the more heavily bearded lead-singer of TVOTR, Kyp Malone. "Smiling Black Faces", which apparently is a rumination on the 2006 shooting of Sean Bell, sounds a lot like a TVOTR song. Malone's voice is so much a part of my love for TVOTR that its hard to look at his songs in any other perspective. His distinctive wail is beautifully highlighted in this heartfelt plea against social injustice. Rain Machines debut album hits shelves on 9/22 but you can stream the entire album over at their MySpace. Also, for those of you in the D.C. area be sure to grab tickets for his 10/25 show at the Black Cat.

Last but not least their are rumors that Dave Sitek is producing a Doom album, which could be incredible.
