Big Baby

A few months back, my friend G-$ (pronounced "gee-money") played me an interesting project titled My Number One Fan. The album is an interesting mix of synth, auto-tune and big drum beats and I really enjoyed listening to it; it's a fun summertime record. Only after we listened to the album straight through did G-$ mention that it was the brain/laptop child of Mark Boccard. Like Heavy D and I, Mark studied at Bates College. More importantly, Mark recorded My Number One Fan under the name Big Baby.

Since independently putting out My Number One Fan in Portland, Maine a few summers back, Mark has put together a new album We All Look Good in the Buff, now available at his site. The new album reflects the change in coasts (he's now living in the East Bay) with a much more laid-back vibe to the entire thing; songs like "The Whale Song" and "A Month of Sundays" evoke memories of early mornings out on the beach, with wind and fog and all the rest. Big Baby's tracks are different, but just as enjoyable, kinds of "summer jams."

I know nothing of future projects or plans for Big Baby, so keep an eye out.

Big Baby - A Month of Sundays
Big Baby - California Honey
Big Baby - The Whale Song
Big Baby - Hot Suppa

(p.s. - At a later date, if I can convince him, I'll put up some of Mark's earlier stuff. The production is more minimal, but really well done...My Number One Fan is VERY different, but it's a great listen)
