Homonyms! Part Deux

Right, well, I'm cheating a bit here, but this was too good a string of songs to not do. As always, I write the blurbs with the time constraints of the track I'm writing about. Here are your homonyms for "take me home," in alphabetical order:

Brother Ali is part of the Rhymesayers crew out of the Twin Cities. He's an incredibly talented MC who's been putting out fantastic music for a while now. In my humble opinion, "Forest Whitaker" is the most underrated hip hop track of the last decade. Ali put out an The Truth is Here EP a few months ago with some new stuff, some old stuff, but make sure you go check out The Undisputed Truth (which "Take Me Home" is on) and Shadows on the Sun. "Take Me Home," is an impeccably produced track on which Ali raps about his rise as a rapper while trying to get a girl to take him home at the same time in the chorus. Most probably know about him already, or know of him, but give him another listen. It's really great stuff.

Eddie Money needs no introduction; for whatever reason, he's become the go-to ironic '80s artist for drunk fraternity brothers everywhere. Me, well, I'm partial to Journey, but I understand the appeal.

I love Phil Collins. Genesis, solo, Tarzan, it doesn't matter, it's all gold. Seriously, how can you not love the drumming on this track? The music video is high unintentional comedy. If you actually listen to Phil's lyrics here, they're actually kind of creepy. Great harmonies on the chorus too. Fantastic emotional work here from Phil. I'm a big fan of the Bone Thugs track that samples this one, but that's just called "Home," so no dice for Homonyms.

Reggie and the Full Effect is a side project for James Dewees of the Get Up Kids. This track is fantastic synth pop about a guy wanting to show his love for his lady. Emo, I know, but a fun track nonetheless. This was a big hit with my friends and I during sophomore year of college. I'm not sure what that says about collective state of mind at that point in time. Great bridge on this track. I wasn't a big fan of Last Stop: Crappy Town, but check out Songs Not to Get Married to.

I've always felt a certain closeness to Toots and the Maytals, perhaps because my mom saw them live while 8 months pregnant with me. Everybody has covered this song, but I love the rhythm of the Maytals take, and vocals don't get any better than Toots. I saw them in Burlington, Vermont a few summers back and their performance of "Take Me Home, Country Roads," brought tears to the eyes of the hippies in the crowd. I grew up in the woods; listening to this song, I have a vivid picture in my mind's eye of turning down onto our dirt road. I dare you to not enjoy this track.

That's it for now. How does Phil Collins not have a website or even a MySpace?
