I'm a big fan of mixing genres. Don't believe me? The first tape I bought was the "Ice Ice Baby" single. Throughout hip hop's history, the bulk of sampling work came from older genres, most prominently soul and funk. In the last few years, though, things have changed. We've seen much more sampling of contemporary material, from all sorts of different, ranging from electro to pop to indie rock. This is due to, in no small part, the immediacy of releases in the digital age, but also to the democratization of the music scene, exposing more people to more music, thanks to the internets. As always, the internets = incredible.
This evening we've got three such tracks, two new joints and one from spring 2008. I don't know much about Chiddy Bang, but I love Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Common and Wale, so enjoy these and enjoy the basketball game tonight.
