I may or may not have mentioned this here in the past, but I've known B-Roc of The Knocks and namesake of HeavyRoc Music since he was in diapers. Actually, that's not true. But I grew up with his older sister and I can remember when B-Roc got his first turntables and mixer. He's come a long way since then, as you can see, though the winter cap is still ever present.
In addition to opening HeavyRoc's beautiful studio in the LES, working on beats-for-hire, producing some music with JPatt as The Knocks and helping launch Samuel's career as a recording artist, B-Roc has changed up his musical stylings. He's started to shift away from rap, hip-hop and turntabilism and towards electro, dance rock and indie music (forgive the use of such genre names...just easier to convey through these terms). Perhaps it was moving to New York and establishing himself in Lower Manhattan as a go-to DJ and producer. Maybe it was just moving away from New Hampshire. Nevertheless, we're all better for it as The Knocks' best work has come in their work with indie rock and blending their hip hop influences throughout their original and remix tracks.
Here's four tracks: two that sample tracks from The Killers and two of my favorite tracks from The Knocks off of their American G-Funk mixtape from last year.
The Killers - Spaceman (The Knocks Remix)
Starsailor vs. Brandon Flowers - Tell Me it's Not Over ft. Flo-Rida (B-Roc Remix)
Jay-Z vs. Air - Blue Magic (The Knocks Remix)
Jay-Z vs. The Whatnauts - American G-Funk (The Knocks Remix)
(Funny anecdote: B-Roc sent us the Flo-Rida track yesterday, not knowing he was sending it to someone he knew from a while back because we don't have our last names on the site...small world, this internet of ours. Once we get the podcast up and going, look for him to come on for a guest DJ session/interview or something along those lines.)
