M83 Loves Action Sports

Above is the trailer for the absolutely fantastic new quicksilver/red bull sponsored snowboard epic, That’s it, That’s All. Featuring Travis Rice and bolstered by an epic soundtrack the movie is borderline life changing, even if you’re not a fan of the slopes. Imagine Planet Earth + snowboarding + great music. A recipe for success if you ask me.

Despite the thrill of the whole project, I often come out of this type of movie feeling a little nostalgic, or envious, or both. Perhaps it’s the knowledge that if you had completely dedicated yourself to a childhood passion, now you would be traveling around the world doing what you loved most. There is obviously something to be said for having a mentally rewarding profession, but the sheer physicality of Rice’s performance is staggering; and certainly more interesting to watch than my average day (to say the least). Fittingly so, the movie opens with the longing, shoegaze epic We own the sky by M83.

Or If skateboarding is more your thing, I recommend Lakai’s, Fully Flared. Arguably one of the best opening scenes of any movie (regardless of genre) and also backed by an M83 song, the equally epic Lower Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun.
